I'm having a hard time deciding when to buy a second battery to replace an old dieing one.
If I buy now its going to be a rather big addition (not that big but I can add a couple of dollars) to the cost (for something that I wont be using until the next year or so).
If I buy a year or two later when my current battery starts diminishing; it'll most likely be low in supply since the vendors have already phased out the battery for my specific model. Definitely prices will go up.
How do you decide when to buy? because not a lot of people change laptops every year or so....
I have a relative whose battery just lasts 10min now and a new one costs half the price of the current resale value of his whole laptop.![]()
Thanks.

Aactually most batteries will depreciate in value, and you can get them from online battery warehouses.
For example, My smart bay battery for my inspiron 8500 can only hold about 10% charge, cause its just about 8 yrs old. Just yesterday I found a new one online for $55, and a used pull for $19. The battery new from Dell was $160 8 yrs ago, so the price has definitely come down.
You can do a quick google search to find the cost of the battery now, and then if you can find a good price I would buy it.

thanks for that info. I'll try to search online.

As K-tron. As you won't be using battery for a year(?), they will not be fresh stock and only 1 year of warranty from date of purchase.
When is the recommended time to purchase a new battery? now or later?
