Is Core 2 Quad going to become available to be configured into mainstream notebooks (namely, Dell XPS m1330 or m1550) within the next 6 months? If so, how much more is it gonna cost compared to the current core 2 duo of the same clock speed?

It should be available in mainstream notebooks in the second half of 2009. When it comes out in the third quarter of this year it'll cost notebook manufacturers about $1,100 in quantities of 1k so it'll be really expensive. Intel said when it comes out it'll only be available in huge-sized notebooks like the Dell M1730.

More like at the end of 2009, not in second half.

there's a reason it's not coming to mainstream notebooks yet:
POWER CONSUMPTION!!!!
but by 2009 we'll probably all be using slice batteries or something right? mmm.. slice batteries... -
Hope it comes out 1st or 2nd half of 2009. I need a redesigned Macbook with Quadcore! -

The MacBook won't get quad-core processors until 2010, atleast. I really doubt that the MacBook Pro will even get quad core processor in 2009, maybe the second half of 2010, so MacBook will probably see them in the end of 2010 or 2011.

Maybe with 32nm we will have a 30W QC. Plus with a smaller die size Intel might sell it around $300. That's when we will see QC in mainstream notebooks. That should be around Q1 2010 when u compare it with 45nm rollout.

I would think twards the end of 2008 they will be quite avalible not mainstream but you won't have to look hard.
Thats my guess
When will Core 2 Quad become available among mainstream notebooks?
