When will Montevina be configurable in mainstream notebook computers (Dell XPS m1530/1330, HP dv6700/2700)? Will it cost more than how much the santa rosa with penryn cost right now? How much better is it than the current santa rosa with penryn chipset?
-
It is planned for release in June and will be widely available by August
If past experience is any indicator, there will likely be a modest premium when Monevina comes out--I'd guess between $100 and $200, but that may actually mean it will cost exactly what it costs now, as older Santa Rosa models will probably fall by about the same by that time
Motevina promisses a boost in FSB (from 800 to 1066), a slight improvement in multimedia improvement when Intel adds additional SSE instructions, a modest increase in integrated video performance if you go that route, support for faster DDR3 ram (800 and 1066), better NAND flash memory performance, gigabit Ethernet, as well as "DisplayPort" -- an external connector attached to the motherboard.
Better? We're talking in the neighborhood of probably 5-10 percent performance for similarly clocked CPUs, but also improved battery life as the wattage requirements shrink from 24watts to 29watts -
but at least much better buy than the current Penryn , which does even not have any dedicated new platform and will be out dated very soon.
the ddr3 support of montevina is a big advantage over the current Santarosa Penryn.
as for battery life , I doubt it since on paper the Penryns are better than meroms , but in real life that is not the case , if I 'd known it would not increase BL much I would never spent 100 US more to get a Penryn laptop (I went a shop for the T7500 but was sold out and got overpriced T8300).
So I am waiting Montevina , but won't but it in Summer , buy it in Fall or Winter. -
The T8300 is better than a T7500, so you can't complain about that. In real life Penryn has an advantage, so will Montevina.
When will Montevina be released and how much?
