I am about to buy the Japanese version of the new Sony TX, because I am in living in Japan. I want to change the Japanese OS along with all of the extra bloatware that sony has on its laptops to a clean install of a US version of Windows XP Pro. But before I do that, I want to make a back up of the drivers on the laptop. My version of Windows XP Pro is a standard one when it first came out. So I have to download all the service packs and such. I want to know if it is possible to just burn the folder with the drivers for the TX computer to a CD or throw it on my 2 Gig flash drive. After the Windows install, I will most likely be missing the drivers for certain TX hardware. I will tell windows to look in the cd for the folder with the drivers to find what it needs. Has anyone ever done anything like this or can forsee any problems? Is this even feasible to find drivers off a folder from the Windows directory? For the record, I have successfully converted a Japanese OS to a clean (reformatted) US version of Windows XP Pro. So I know it is possible. I just never tried it on the TX and my friend, a computer technician, said that all the hardware is the same. It is the software that can cause compatibility issues.
Cheers,
Kiet

Sony support site lists all the drivers for your laptop. Go through them and burn it to a disc before upgrading...
