It feels like the wait for the US Skylake Mobile CPU release is taking ages.. Everyone is under NDA and can't launch there new lines until it is announced.. I hear that is it coming soon.. Probably by Oct. 1st, but that is just the running rumor..

Who else is in the same boat? Waiting for a new laptop and checking the sites delay to see if they finally launched?

Haha.. I have no laptop or desktop right now as I am in between upgrades and resorting to phone games and Xbox One haha..

I personally gave up on Skylake - just couldn't stand the wait anymore - and bought a machine at decent price with CPU upgrade in mind. Haswell quad should rape any Skylake dual CPU-wise, its' battery life is enough for my needs and can be further expanded with modular battery. =/

But to everyone else I advice: Wait until Skylake! You will either get newer-better tech, or Haswell/Broadwell at better price. =p

I am keeping an eye out for sales, but havent seen anyone slashing prices over a normal sale throughout the year. From my experience with hardware part they typically tend to just fade away rather than go out at a super low price.. But I do hope I am wrong as I wouldn't mind snagging a cheap last gen..

I've seen a few leaks on the up coming models (Sager wise) and MC has an MSI with the 6820hk posted on there site.. 17" tho.. So the official launch should be right around the corner.

If it matters, you're probably not going to snag a cheap last-gen product. You're right that laptop hardware tends to just fade away (rather than do the fire-sale inventory clearance sale you're hoping for) on something as minor as an incremental CPU generational bump.

Since I assume that you're looking for a computer for gaming purposes, then timing your purchase with GPU release cycles is far more important than CPU release cycles. Get a computer with at least an nVidia GTX 970M, an SSD, and a nice IPS display. The CPU under the hood becomes nearly irrelevant.

Here's a quick video of the new Dell XPS 13 with Skylake + USB type-C.

Man. That's a sexy addition. I bought a Dell XPS 13 a few months back... And I would've loved to get the new model in that video.

But I need to keep telling myself that I don't own any USB 3.1 devices, don't own any USB type c devices or cables. And skylake is an unnoticeably small performance bump over broadwell.

Does anybody know how the integrated graphics on skylake compare to broadwell? I do a bit of light gaming when I'm on the road, and having a little bump in integrated GPU performance would be welcome.

Yah, the CPU is nothing to write home about.

Same. I'm torn between USB type-C. It looks like it'll be useful...in like 10 months.

HD 520 isn't anything special, but Iris 540 in a 15W ultrabook laptop? It's packing double the EUs and 64MB eDRAM. Waiting on reviews...

Everything has been incremental (slightly faster, lower power consumption). If you are coming from Haswell, Broadwell, or even Ivy Bridge, it probably isn't a huge performance upgrade unless you do insane number crunching and were already looking for a replacement computer. And that's how Intel has been able to keep AMD down, their thermals and power consumption are far lower every generation and the performance is there.

USB Type-C will be annoying at first, until mass market catches up with multiple adapters/OEMs using that standard over their product lines..

Yup. I love going back and reading all the completely BS Skylake hype, like this drivel put out by WCCFTech: "Big and Disruptive".

Right. I think CPU-wise, nothing interesting. But, I think the "overall" laptop improvements from a 2012-3 era laptop (like battery life, improved screens, SSDs, physical design evolutions, etc.) are more worthy, haha.

Yups. The new XPS 13 ( dubbed the 9350) seems to have the best compromise: 2 USB 3.0 + 1 Thunderbolt 3 (USB type-C).

Two relatively fast and useful USB ports, one super-fast + reversible Thunderbolt 3 port.
