I know prices have shot up and I don't think they'll come down any time soon though, so I was wondering if any one on here knew where I could buy said drive from for a decent price, I don't want to go so cheap and it end up breaking and at the same time I don't want to get robbed either.

Newegg.com or Tigerdirect.com are the best I've found. Usually thier prices are within $10 bucks.
-
Prices have already come down significantly from what they were, are you sure you can't wait a couple more months?
-
They said worse case would be a year after the typhoon incident before prices would start to normalize back to early 2011 levels. This all happened when? Around November 2011? So it may be a while. Of course if you can wait a bit, see if prices trend downwards.
I typically shop Newegg then check the part number at Amazon and Tiger Direct. Amazon a lot of times is comparable pricing, plus return policy is a bit better. -
Oh okay thanks for the advice, well I found this external drive and I wanted to make sure if I'd be able to use it with a USB 2.0/USB 1.1 Laptop such as mine (Dell Inspiron 1520), the external drive is listed as USB 3.0 compatible. But I was wondering, do I need to buy this adapter or can I just use a straight up use the USB 3.0 cable and plug it into my USB 2.0/1.1 slot?
Of course I know I won't be getting the recommended speeds but I need the space and want future proof myself. I have an 54mm express card in that houses 2 USB 3.0 slots, would I be able to use those? -
Yes, USB 3.0 is backward compatible.and pretty fast if you get future laptop with 3.0.
As a bonus the bottom adapter will let you plug bare 2.5" drive in to use as a "drive dock". Unable to test with a 3.5 drive ATM. -
Ahh I see, so that means, I don't have to buy the adapter right?
-
Correct, just plug it in for 2.0/1.0 speeds, all the majick is in the base module..the adapter is included with cord.
-
Ahh okay, thanks for that!
Where can I buy a decent 3TB External?
