Hi, I have a Compaq presario c770us, and I need to buy a new sound card for it, where can I find it?
Thanks!!!!

notebooks don't have sound cards, they have onboard sound
what exactly are your problems with it? -
The sound card is integrated into the motherboard. You would have to physically solder and remove teh audio chipset and swap it with another in order to replace it.
What is the problem?
If its a software issue, it can be fixed by reinstalling the audio drivers.
I have never seen a sound card burn out from excessive use, usually you can only fry them by shorting the microphone port, or physically tampering with the audio chipset.

Well, I had my speakers connected, and when I unpluged them, the laptop speakers stopped working. I sent laptop to HP and they said the sound device was damaged and it needed to be replaced, do I need a new motherboard?

you most likely just shorted the microphone jack on the laptop.
Have you ever taken your system apart before?
If you have, you may want to post a good picture of the motherboard, where the microphone jack is. From their you can see if the motherboard audio chip is damaged or the actual jack itself.
Look inside the microphone jack for any loose metal. If a piece of the connector pushed down or is stuck in the wrong position, the jack will stay in the closed position, telling music not to play. You can fix this by replacing the microphone jack, but that involves taking teh system apart and replacing the audio jack with a soldering iron.
If you do not feel comfortable doing this, you can either sell the individual parts of your laptop which work to fund a new laptop, or you can buy a new motherboard for it.

Thanks for writing.
I have seen that for some laptops you can replace the small circuit that has the mic and headphones jacks, is that the case for this laptop? If not, where can I buy a new motherboard for this specific model? I can't find it anywhere.... -
Usually the sound card is integrated on to the motherboard. If the card is physically damaged and beyond repair, then the only other alternative is to get an external card, either USB or PCMCIA/Expresscard. From the basic specs I found on the net, it seems like there is no expansion card slot in your notebook, if that is the case then USB is the only option for you.
There are pretty good external sound cards out there, check out the Creative X-Fi series. I'm using a X-Fi Go my self (and it sounds much better than the integrated sigmatel card, here is a small review I wrote about it). You can also find true 5.1 surround cards too, i.e: Creative X-Fi Surround 5.1, TurtleBeach Audio Advantage SRM etc... Then there are those $5 unbraded cards too, but I don't recommend them.
Where can I find this??? Help please!!!!
