To hear audio from the speakers, I need to have something pushed into the mic jack. To hear audio from headphones, the plug can only be in halfway, and so I don't get much bass. If I'm talking on Skype, I have to keep my hand on the mic plug pulled towards me at all times or it doesn't pick up my voice.

Basically, something is loose. This is a mod that seems more complicated than what I can do since it's directly tied into the motherboard. Are there any places I can send out to for (relatively) cheap that fix these things?

    Thanks

Hi I had accident with my old laptop and I had connected cable to headphone/speaker jack
and my cousin hook on cable and totally broke jack inside ( I wanted beat him .. :) )
and that was so difficult to find new one !!
because that was HD Azalia Jack combined with S/PDIF so with led (red)
and I contacted the manufacturer (china/usa) and they were very ignorant !!
after 5 emails they told me I have to order minimal 1000 pieces of that jack
so last thing was used so I headed to ebay and I found there plenty spare parts .. and even similar AUDIO jack
and then I disassembled the laptop removed AUDIO sound boad (small PCB)
I desoldered damaged jack take it out and replaced with good one from ebay
and I successfully repaired audio jack :)

SGMD1, what is the model of your laptop?

Also, look into purchasing a PCMCIA or Expresscard sound card with jacks.
