For my T61p it goes under the touchpad mouse. I'm not too sure about the T43 but it should be similar. You'll have to remove the screws corresponding to the RAM locations. Your manual should help.

Don't forget the remove the AC plug, remove the battery, and then discharge the remaining power in the capacitators by pressing the power switch a few times. And make sure you're well grounded to prevent any static shock to the system.

There's one on the underside of the notebook, beneath a panel, and another under the keyboard. Consult the HMM for more information.

Yeah RAM modules on the T43 are sort of in the middle of it, just take the keyboard off to get at the inside DIMM slot, and take the underside "door" off to get at the outsidemost DIMM slot. Take all screws off the bottom that have a keyboard symbol indicating those are the screws you need to take off to take the keyboard off.

Wow that a little troublesome... quite suprising considering thinkpads are supposed to be rugged and easily upgradeable... my hp laptop has a slot underneath which i can access with 2 screws being removed :)

My T43 is rugged and upgradeable, however there are screws all over the place and it makes it a damn pain. I took mine apart to clean out the insides of dust and it took forever!!

How hard is it to take off the screws that have the keyboard symbol next to them? Take em off the bottom, flip it over, and boom, off the keyboard comes, giving you access to your heatsink screws, RAM, and anything underneath the keyboard, they are easily upgradeable and serviceable, do you really expect the rugged durability of ThinkPads without using any screws? Sure you can't just "pop it off with a snap of a finger" but it's very very easy to do... just make sure you don't store any static electricity in your fingers, i really don't see why this is so hard for some people. They put those symbols for the teardrop, keyboard, and RAM modules, next to the screws for a reason, to tell you what each screw will grant you access to if you should loosen it.
    Get a clue.
