Where to Get CPU & GPU cooling fans for Tongfang GK5CN6Z (OP-LP2 15")

Per the title of thread:

Any ideas where I might be able to get CPU & GPU cooling fans for the Tongfang GK5CN6Z laptop system board? (Overpowered OP-LP2 15" notebook)

Both fans making new grinding/buzzing sounds, like they're about to give up the ghost (I open up the laptop and air spray out dust once or twice a month - not a whole lot builds up.

I've looked all over....maybe a couple of longshot leads w/Schenker laptops, but not sure.

Found the exact fans for my poor, buzzing OP-LP2 on eBay.

"Sunon"-branded, EG50060S1-C380-S9A-DC-5V-2-25W-THER7GK5C6-1411 (system board is Tongfang GK5CN6Z) 4 Pin, $14.99 USD each. These are the OEM fans. I bought 4 of them, just in case -

The fans for CPU and GPU are identical, left and right...one of them is just flipped over.

Just as a dry run, I took out the 2 ailing fans - easy as pie (except for the goofy black tape), didn't have to remove the system board at all - was dreading that.

When I removed the fans, out popped 3 or 4 dust bunny wads, each about the 1/4 the length of a cigarette (and about 1/2 the diameter). More bunnies were clumped inside the fan shrouds, and some were stuck fast to the fins of the heat sink vents. For the life of me, I can't understand this, cuz I blow out all the vents every 2 months, & change my furnace / AC filters 4 times a year (which are never clogged/dirty).

I replaced the old tape with Gorilla duct tape, which sticks just as good, is more durable, and is rated for higher temperatures.

I buttoned everything back up, and my laptop runs good as new, almost (except the fan bearings are shot), all 6 cores idle at 37°C, and max to about 65°C under heavy loads (Firestorm Second Life). Same with the nVidia GTX-1060 GPU. I never thermally stressed the CPU or GPU (always have Open Hardware Monitor running).

I'm gonna baby the thing until the new fans arrive some time between July 12 & August 15.

ps - i'm also dreading the prospect of re-pasting the CPU & GPU of this bad boy... so many other users have stripped or buggered the heads of the screws that hold down the CPU & GPU heatsink spreaders, or later theycouldn't get the screws to go back in. In such cases, the system board would be severely crippled, or even destroyed, for all intents and purposes - unless serious bucks are shelled out. I probably won't risk it. But still, you're supposed to repaste a laptop every 2-3 years. For me, it'll be 3 years for this laptop, this coming Dec. 2021.

 

In the mean time, so I can limp my laptop along until the new CPU and GPU cooling fans arrive, I have been using unclewebb's fantastic ThrottleStop to downclock my i7-8750H CPU from a max of 4.1 GHz to 2.2 GHz on all 6 cores, and lock it there. The ailing CPU fan is not spinning very fast at all (neither is the GPU fan). Unclewebb is a genius and a lifesaver. This is a deplorable but manageable state, but it is working. Once again, unclewebb has saved the day.

My main concern was the fan bearings degrading so badly that they seize up and stop the fan, causing the current draw on the circuit to skyrocket, thus blowing a microfuse somewhere on the system board. Then I'd really be screwed.

I'm just so glad I opened up the laptop and discovered that both fans are readily and completely accessible (I removed and cleaned both, thoroughly - no hassles), so props to the Tongang designers & engineers (except for sourcing crappy, short lifespan fans - I'm also relieved that I bought 4 more).

So far, so good, though. No more grinding noise, and the fans are still spinning and cooling. Limping along in 2.2 GHz world...

Today I received & installed brand new OEM CPU and GPU cooling fans (off eBay) for my OP-LP2 laptop (x2 fans, identical, just flip one fan over & install). 100% fix. Laptop is better than new, runs full power, nice & cool. I bought 2 more fans, because my original fans lasted only about 2.5 years with 24/7 use, even when I blew out dust twice a month. And area above F-keys on keyboard is also very cool to the touch (right above heatpipes on chassis). Even when new, right out of the box, that area would get scorching hot to the touch.

I'm actually looking for a heatsink just to have a extra one around after I add some liquid metal to this chassis. I have the Gateway version however the chassis is the same as others.

Have you seen anywhere that sells heatpipes or heatsinks for these laptops?
