Need a new power adaptor as current power adaptor is right at its limit. Current adaptor 150W, 19.5V @7.7A.

Having great difficulties in finding 180W+ 19.5V universal laptop adaptors online, are there any?

Thanks, problem is that adaptor only gives 19V I need 19.5V I think or there won't be enough current. maybe I am wrong.

voltage is not the same as current.....

What makes you think that the adapter you own now is at it's 'limit'??

Did you try with asus? Maybe they have one... but BTW why do you need a 180 W adapter... 150 W one is more than enought for your system...

It is if I don't OC. If I OC the Q9650 the computer simply shuts off the processor throttles when the stress test begins. A bigger power supply is therefore necessary. Also it isn't the fsb being reached as the Q9650 would be able to easily reach 3.33ghz+ before hitting that limit and the thermals are within very reasonable limits.

will the internal components of your laptop supply enough current? Laptop internals are usually tightly spec'd without much headroom for power hungry mods. This is not a factor of the external power brick.

I am pretty sure so as long as the new adaptor gives 19.5V extra wattage will come in handy. It is a bit like driving a pair of 100W speakers yes they will run on a 50W amp but a 100W amp will drive them better and be much less likely to tear the sound at higher volumes. Here the 150W is adequate with the Q9650 undervolted at stock and perhaps a tiny OC but not to the level that I want to push it.

oops i thought you were still using your E4400... the only thing i can think off would be to do a volt mod and undervolt.. i don't know where to find an adapter.. try asus maybe..

Sony offers many adapters of 150w/19.5/7.75.

    Have you tried eBay UK?

    cheers ...

cheers yeah I used to have the E6600 but the throttle temp was higher and the fans therefore span faster I am currently trying undervolting with some success. So far 5% OC successful and 100% stable.

Thanks for your response qhn but I already have a 150W and looking for a more powerful adaptor say 180W+

I don't think choosing a 19v adapter over a 19.5v adapter is going to cause a problem with laptop function. Possibly in battery charge time.

The notebook doesn't require anywhere near 19v, just the voltage regulators and charge circuits for the battery. At any given time the notebook is running at approximately the voltage your battery is rated at. Somewhere between 10 and 12 volts.

As long as the input voltage level at a given current doesn't fall below the minimum voltage required by the voltage regulators you should be fine.

Apparently when you try to OC, your present adapter cannot supply the required current causing the output voltage to drop below the critical level need to keep your charge circuits (voltage regulators) functioning.

If it were me, I would give the 19v, 180W adapter a go. I would be concerned is if the voltage level was too high.

I just looked at bottom of laptop and it says C90P - Input : 19V --7.9A so I guess any 19V will be fine :) I shall follow your advice deeastman cheers!

what else don't you know about the machine?

It's a serious question. You spent a lot of time looking for a 19.5v adapter. Were I you, I'd be verifying as many of the tech detail of teh laptop as possible. Including how much current the internal voltage regulators can really supply without blowing out.

Its not voltage you're after but amperage

    19V x 7.9A = 150w

    19v x 9.5A = 190w
