I'm looking to buy a MXM 3.0 GTX 280m in the UK Since importing is stupidly expensive and often unreliable.
I'm looking to get it for my M980NU.
As of yet I haven't found one in the UK at all.
Does anyone know where to get hold of one?
Any help is appreicated.

Yes mate it can play space invaders if thats what you want to know.PAC-MAN should run at 10fps may be some stuttering.

Send Neil@Kobalt a PM. He should have a price quote for you in the UK.
-
Thanks soviet sunrise I shall do that now
-
Damn iv just tried and it says he's inbox is full, iv not been on this long and is there any other way I can get in touch with him, would it be wise to ring kobalt in the morning and see if they will do it?
-
Ask a mod if they can help.
-
A mod?.. Please explain??

You can also call or email them. http://www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk/

As Soviet Sunrise points to, ask Neil @ Kobalt. He should be able to give you a quote.
It maybe cheaper to import it from RJtech though.
Finally, there are a whole host of 3700M cards on eBay, which are just as powerful. A bios flash later and... -
I can already help a little Kobalt retail the cards for about £350-380 per 280, however due to high demand for the cards there is a waiting list stretching into several weeks last time i checked with Kobalt seeing as they have problems getting them for RMA replacements sometimes due to short supply so they have even fewer to sell on normally
I know you ordered your machine from Mesh, did you ask them? -
-
Yea pman I asked them and they said they won't sell them on there own, I don't mind paying that much for one and waiting a while
I can't believe that there the only ones who sell them in the uk though. :/ surely there's some one else where there's such high demands

The FX 3700M is 65nm and the GPU memory is rated for 900MHz. The GTX 280M is 55nm and the GPU memory rated for 1000MHz.

Unforunetly I haven't got any American friends so that's out of the question and rjtech says there 280m is only for the M980tu. I tried ringing kobalt today but couldent get through:/ iv also rang like 10 places and they all gave me the same two answers ,straight away, no we cannot get them*without looking* and you can't upgrade laptop graphic cards
this really should be more simple :/ -

The one that RJTech has on their page is the MXM 2.1 version for the M570TU. You need to email them to get a price quote for the MXM 3.0 version for the M980NU.
Clevo is in shortage with the GTX 280M right now. You need to realize the difficulties Clevo is having to deal with to acquire fresh cards off the assembly line from Nvidia. -
I spoke to Kobalt on your behalf
They can order them but the supply is extremley short at the moment the m980nu is ordered with either single of dual cards and sold as such so the machine you purchased would have been brought from clevo as a single 280 machine.
Luckily Kobalt havent had any 280's returned on RMA but they said thier procedure would be to just either replace the unit and rma the whole unit to clevo or just swap out a card from one they have in stock and rma that unit to clevo.
At the moment they advised me it would be a number of months before they could secure a spare 280, but the price i quoted is roughly right. The last enquiry they made about getting spare 280's they were quoted at 8 weeks +
Hope that is helpful if not re assuring -
Why didn't you order it with dual cards from the jump?
-
Thanks pman youv been a great help!
how would I go about getting on this waiting list? And kevin jack2.0 that's cuz they only sell it's with one card where I got it from, for some reason:/

Where did you get your M980NU from?
-
Meshcomputers, I know before you have a go at me but it was the cheapest m980nu I could find.
-
Why do you ask, just out of interest?

Select GBP as the currency and click on VGa technologies. They have it for 390GBP. -

Thanks ayle, but again it's not within the U.K so import tax is gonna be huge, but then again iv never imported anything before, but mr taxman allways gets his share.
Any news on getting on this list pman? -
Pretty much any place you buy it from inside of Europe is going to have imported it themselves and added to tax value to the overall price.
In otherwords it will be the same price wherever you buy it, you just have to deal with the tax issues yourself rather than having a company do it.
The only way around it is finding and eBay seller willing to sell it cheaply enough. And you'd have to be pretty lucky on that account... -
thanks ayle i think when i come to get one i will get it from there
cheers
