    I posted about this in the Sony room but haven't had a response so perhaps this is a better room :)

    I've just purchased a second hand Sony TZ31mn. It comes with a 100GB 1.8" Toshiba HDD (Ultra ATA 4200 RPM).

    I am looking to put in an SSD to increase performance (and battery life too). I have heard good things about hybrid drives with a seagate 500GB hybrid HDD/SDD costing £89 in the UK; a good alternative which offers storage and speed. Unfortunately, they only seem to make them for 2.5" drives.

    A 64GB kingston 1.8" SSD costs about £115 whilst a 128GB costs £200. Can anyone confirm whether these drives are directly compatible?

    Also, can these drives be fitted directly or do I need a an adaptor?

    I'd also consider a fast (e.g. 7200rpm) HDD however there doesn't seem to be many options available for 1.8" drives outside of SSD drives.

    A point in the right direction would be appreciated :)

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    Thanks for the link. Will have a better look later to see which ones are available in the UK.

    Do you know which adaptor is required for an ultra ATA drive?

    Thanks again :)

    @Tilleroftheearth - Thanks :)

    @Agent9 - Yeah I have that article and another tutorial bookmarked for when I do it. It does look like there are a few areas where you could mess up but if I take it step by step it should be ok.

    I had a VGN-TX2P a few years ago (the 10.6" ultraportable) and had to remove the keyboard etc to add more RAM, so I am familar with the process. Though adding memory is easy as it just slots in. I've upgraded the hard drive on lots of pcs but never a laptop so I'll make sure I take my time when doing it :)
