With all your fantastic advice and help I have decided on getting a 120-128Gb SSD and have narrowed it down to 3 choices. Please vote in my poll and then if you'd like, please post why you chose the SSD you did in the poll.

Also, you can pick choice #4 - Something else; and then post what that something else is and why you like it better than my other 3 choices.

Finally, if anyone has a reputable dealer or seller who has your choice available at a lower price than the one I listed, please post that as well.

Thanks again for all your help and great Advice!!! :)

Intel 510 bit pricey, Crucial M4 waiting for a firmware update but still many would recommend but Samsung 830 wins for it's reputation.

Crucial M4 is the definition of planned obsolescence. I cannot recommend it under any circumstances until a fix is 100% confirmed.

I have to agree with Syberia, until the 5200 hours bug has been fixed, it's hard to recommend the M4. In any case, i'll know in a few months if my drive is affected in the event that there is no fix.

Guess I need to read up on the M4 bug. 5200 hours is a long time, but not for a hard drive. Is the problem that the Nand(or whatever they call it) is worn out, or that the controller is designed to start to stop working at 5K hours?

Better get out my Crucial T-shirt, put on my Micron hat, and give them a call. ;)

From what i read on the bug, the drive requires a hourly restart after ~5000 hours: BSOD Crucial M4 - Crucial Community.

The NAND is fine and the data isn't lost so it isn't all bad. By the way, 5000 hours is roughly 7 months of 24/7 use. The 64GB M4 in my desktop has been running for over 3500 hours now, built at the beginning of august, so if there is no fix, i might be experiencing the problem myself soon. Crucial seems to be handling the issue quite well so far, they acknowledged the problem, are working on it and issued a potential release date for the fix.

For me, 5200 hours would be almost 2 years.

Anyway, my old contacts at Crucial directed me to the same thread as mentioned by tijo(thanks), and told that I could buy the drive now, prior to them releasing their fix, and probably get one for at a discount(I assume they looked at my account to know how cheap I am). I was ASSURED that a fix was being tested and would soon be released. I told them I wanted a new T-shirt for my troubles....

Then again, we all know the saying for words that start like assume or assured. ;)

Wow... never thought about that. Thanks Nemix!

Something I didn't consider, but probably because this laptop will spend 95% of its' time on my desk plugged in. Thanks anyway... since if I ever get another "good" job before I die, I would expect to start traveling again and battery life would be important.

And, other lurkers looking for advice for SSDs can see this and learn just like me. :D

With the all-time low prices on the m4, it's hard to recommend anything else even with their temporary snafus.

True, I had my mind set on a Intel 320 120GB just a day ago but I have since changed my mind in favor of the Crucial M4 128GB which is the same price but gets me 8GB more space and is faster.

Still trying to decide between a Momentus 750GB or 7K750 750GB, the Momentus is $10 more expensive but also has 15GB more space after formatted and does not need to be align to 4K sector.

I'll probably going to end up with the M4/Momentus combo which nets me a total of nearly 25GB more space.

    :)
