    For reliability, Seagate.

Visit Tom's Hardware 2.5" HDD charts and choose your own parameters for performance. In general, Hitachi and Seagate offer the best performance.

Personally, I've got a Samsung 160GB 5400, which is not at the top of the charts but runs quietly and keeps relatively cool.

As John mentions, Seagate and Hitachi make the best HDs. I would go with the Seagate because they offer a 5 year warranty.

You pay for that warranty though, and it is unlikely to be that useful.

I've got the Hitachi, and haven't been unhappy with it ;) Of course, I've only had it for like, 3 weeks, but still... :p

In general, Hitachi has the best performance, but Seagate will offer the quietest and most reliable drives.

Although you won't use the 5 year warranty, it's great to know that Seagate backs their products so confidently that they WILL offer the 5-year warranty.

I would have gone with the Western Digital personally; I had one in my last laptop (the drive is now in an external enclosure) and it was the quietest and coolest drive I ever had. WD has the best quality in my opinion.
