    I'm getting a new HP ProBook 4530s, HM65, i7 2670, 4GB RAM, 1GB ATI 6490, 640GB HDD, Win 7 Pro 64

I want to replace the 640GB HDD with a 256GB SSD, but which SSD should I go for?

    1- Crucial M4
    2- Samsung 830
    3- Corsair Performance Pro

This is my first SSD purchase/upgrade, so easy installation & direct compatibility is prefered as im not very familiar with the steps.

You can get the Crucial M4 with a data transfer kit and the Samsung 830 with a notebook kit for easy installation.

    CT256M4SSD2CCA - 256GB, 2.5-inch Solid State Drive , from Crucial.com
click on "Product Details"to see about the data transfer kit.
    256GB 2.5-inch SSD 830 Series | Samsung Memory & Storage
click on "FEATURES" to see about the notebook kit.

Personally I like Samsung's SSD Magician tool, so I would go with the Samsung.

I absolutely agree with the Samsung 830 series SSD. Made that choice to replace my Intel SSD with it. Samsung Magician is quite a handy tool. You can run an optimization and force TRIM anytime you want. Only recommend that you do that once per week. Samsung SSD has all Samsung parts including the three core processor.

Note that most tests are run on Desktops. My speeds have approached the rated, but never matched, until I disabled C1E using Throttlestop. On a desktop that setting can be disabled in the bios. Most laptop manufacturer's don't give you that option. So any SATA III SSD is going to be slightly held back. Regardless, the Samsung is one sweet, fast SSD. Right now, Newegg is offering some great deals on Samsung and Crucial SSD's. You can get the 256 GB for slightly over $1 per GB.

You cannot go wrong with any of those three, I have the Corsair Performance Pro myself and it's solid. I would also add the Plextor M3 (Pro version) to your short list.

If you're on a budget, the M4's the way to go. I really can't speak for the Samsung but I've heard many good things.
I have the Corsair Performance Pro 256GB in my system and it's been excellent. Highly recommend it!

830 has excellent support and RMA process, but as everyone has said, you can't go wrong with any of them.
