First off: you posted this in the wrong forum: should have gone in one of the hardware ones.

Second, the Crucial is the best one. Looks like it's Indilinx-based, which tend to be tops for random R/W.

The OWC drive is probably SandForce-based (based on the 50/100/200GB capacities). SandForce drives haven't really gotten out in the market, but I do believe that they should be at least as fast as the current Intel drives.

Maybe in a couple months SandForce will be the choice of choices, but at this particular point in time, I'd still go for one of the current "big three" - Indilinx, Intel or Samsung, just because these drives have already worked out most of their teething problems, and have a (somewhat) proven track record.

Actually my first choice was the Samsung but failed to find one with TRIM supported so I tried looking for a different brand.

Any link to where I can find a Samsung w/ TRIM?

Thanks a lot for the very informative response.

    Samsing != Corsair.

The first drive is Samsung-based. The second drive is Indilinx-based. Apparently Corsair's Indilinx implementation has something to be desired...

512? Yow!! Wonder if it's a SandForce or Indilinx....didn't know anyone had gotten them that big yet.

Course, I'd have to sell my car to get one. :)

I have a Samsung 64gb drive in my T400. I did some reseach becoz of that. My research indicated the Samsung 64/128gb drives sucked compared to the indilink/intel/runcore drives. Dell/Lenovo used to ship Samsung so of folks them. These used to be had for significantly cheaper on ebay then the other drives. If i was buying retail I would go with the intel or indilink(vertex?) drives.

I found my Samsung ssd to be bettre than the 7200 hdd but below indilink/intel/runcore drives. couple that with power savings compared to 7200. Was satisfied enough considering my laptop is under warranty.

i would get the Intel G2 version... most reliable of all SSD's,... and also fastest and newest... but IMO , its not worth the cost of half a new gaming laptop...

its annoying that 256gb ssd's have not come down in price for a long time. only time they could be had for reasonable price was dell branded samsung drive.

i guess we have to wait for 25nm intel drives to see 300gb drives < $500. but i am sure etailers like newegg would markup like crazy.

Yep. I was also eagerly waiting for the price drop on SSDs but finally decided to pull the trigger on the Samsung. :)

pay more = enjoy it now
pay less = wait for months

congrats! which samsung model # and firmware? or was it the Corsair? I was considering a 256GB Samsung SSD for my Mac but I couldn't find them anywhere or maybe I wasn't looking hard enough.

    Thanks
