I have a 160gb, and unfortunately, will be maxing out soon...

I'm hoping for something in the $400-500 range, and TRIM support.

$400-500? Not sure of 256GB SSD's in that price range unless they're used. I've heard the most good things about Crucial's 256GB SSD.

I've had luck with buying from eBay- So basically, I just need some names.

I've googled and compared, but after awhile it all becomes just numbers.

If only Intel made 256gb, The choice would be easy.

    What about Samsung or Toshiba?

btw you have an error in your "status" below your name.
Actually you just forgot the s after tête. it should be Monstre à plusieurs têtes..
    Just saying :D

Yeah, I know. Unfortunately, there's a max on chars typed, and I've exceeded it, hence the "invisible" S.

Yep, Mushkin makes perfect sense-

If I recall Samsung is a primary manufacturer of SSDs are they not?

Intel will make 300 and 600 size drives by Q4.

Congrats :) You should be quite happy with it.

Knowing Intel, they'll have 300 and 600 size prices to go with them.

Can you really blame a guy for trying to make a buck? :D
Besides, they do set the standard, don't they?

On the other hand, sometimes you can find Intel parts wrapped in generic packaging for less. Go figure.

Crucial RealSSD C300 SATA III/SATA600 interface. These drives even on SATA II are rated faster then any other drive and once on SATA III they get like 355MB/sec read speeds and 280MB/sec write speeds. You can find them for about 650 dollars now. They support TRIM right out the box. They are a good investment because in 1 or 2 years when SATA III is standard on notebooks you will already have a drive that supports it so think of the extra 150 over your budget a huge savings cause your SSD is future proof for the next standard.

How's the performance of cloning an SSD to another SSD (higher capacity)? Is there a hit, or would fresh install be better?

I am very interested in this drive and how you like it. If you have some time, would you post benchmarks?

    Thanks

I've never been big on synthetic benchmarks (reason being you can go nuts looking at numbers- just google and see what I mean).

I'll do some testing- maybe Crystal disk and/or HD Tune.

Anyway, here is a link of SSD comparisons. Crucial CT225 seems to do well.
