I bought NewEgg's Western Digital Scorpio Black a few months back to replace my laptop's 80 gig 5,400 RPM original drive. Once in a great while I hear the clicking, but not often. Never hear or feel any vibration. My hearing is excellent, so I'm extremely please with the drive. It's faster, yes, and by now I simply no longer think about it. But it's BIG. I've got my data files on it along with backing up data files from two friends, as well as backups of programs I like and 27 gigs of my companion's MP3's

So is it total silent ? no any rotating noise ?
-
I could say that my WD3200BJKT is dead silent. The different is very much noticeable compared to WD3200BEVT that I also use. Amazing how a 7200RPM drive could suppress its noise lower than 5400RPM one.
But of course late at night if you really really listen, you could still sense that rotating noise saying that it's functioning. -
Hi I just ordered WD3200BEKT is the same like yours but without FFS
What I will be short of ?
thnx -
Don't know for sure, AFAIK free-fall sensor should be the only thing inside BJKT that BEKT is short of. Here the difference costs around ¥1,000 (about US$10).

hi i just installed my new WD BEKT and is mega noisy
and klicking annoyngly !
-
Use hdparm. If you search for it you will find the instructions.
-
What???
Why is it so different with my WD3200BJKT?
I didn't change the acoustic management setting in the BIOS. I left it default (By-pass), and it is a very silent drive. -
When I put laptop on table I can hear vibration noise like: huuu.. and klicking head is more noisy
WD 500GB wasn't like that..
You know that u have FFS right
And they added it because the head was probably noisy before ( in my model)
I am running Vista 64
Dunno I'll try install Win 7 the hard drive behaviour is slightly different there -
I was also experiencing the vibration sound, but that was when I haven't closed the access panel door right. After I turned all the screws tight, no more humming sound.
And I also noticed that the hard drive bracket/caddy in my Studio 17 has an inside thin layer of rubber. Maybe this also helps turning the noise down.
Don't know for sure about this, cause I thought the only difference is the FFS (which I thought has nothing to do with noise).
My WD3200BJKT is filled with Acronis copy of Vista 32 Ultimate SP1 from the old 5400RPM WD3200BEVT drive. -
FFS does nothing for the HDD when it is running. It is a sensor that detects falling and will park the head if there is a rapid vertical change in distance (ie. it gets dropped).

Hi Evoss-X,
I had similar really annoying clicking problems with the WD3200BEKT and thought I had solved it via software, but then had issues with Vista and the software.
Finally got the WD3200BEKT replaced with a WD3200BJKT (with free fall sensor) and haven't had a clicking problem since then - no need for software solutions or fiddling with settings. The BJKT is a great drive so far. -
F! S! B! I knew that ..!
You know I had these two in my basket(separate) when I was buying HDD...
And there was 10 pounds difference and I bought cheaper ..
you know I was trying to buy cheapest ...
tought that FFS is only when I turn laptop off...
Which 320GB 7200rpm Hard Drive?
