Hello I am planning on picking up a new 7200 rpm hard drive for my XPS 1530. Which hard drive would everyone recommend (WD, Seagate, Fujitsu, Hitachi, etc) and who has the best deal on it? Thanks!

I recommend you to buy Seagate mom. 7200.4 250 GB
it's quiet speedy -
How much space do you need? What is your budget?

does anyone know thats the battery difference i m going to get woth the 5400 and 7200.
-
Some 7200rpm drives may actually give you better battery performance, as some 5400 drives that come with laptops can be really crappy.
I'd recommend the Western Digital Black Scorpio 320gb. I think newegg has em for $74 right now. Well, well worth the money! -
I recommand Seagate Momentus 7200.4 (7200 Rpm) 250 Gb / 320 Gb / 500 Gb
The 7200.4 500 Gb is really good : http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/seagate_momentus_500gb/ -
Note that the reliability of 7200rpm laptop drives are much worse that 5400rpm units. Just an FYI...

Seagate 7200.4 does well in synthetic benchmarks but doesn't outperform the WD in real life.
The WD is also cheap and reliable. -
7200rpm laptop drives simply have higher faults. There are no ifs, ands, and buts about it. You dont know because you dont work in IT...I on the other had have been doing this for 10 years in a REAL IT environments not just at home playing with one or two drives like most of you guys... -

get seagate momentum 7400 har ddrive and dont listen to igrim. I have 2 in raid 0 and no problem. its the fastest hard drive.
-
And just fyi why the hell would i want a slow 5400 rpm hard drive it doesnt make sense.
-
Have you used a 5400RPM drive before? I have yet to see someone demonstrate that they can pick out the slower drive more than once in a blind test between current generation 5400 vs. 7200RPM drives.

You'll only really see the difference in synthetic benchmarks.

7200rpm laptop drives are FAR more prone to fail.
Which 7200rpm HD to get?
