Which DVDRW drive is more reliable: LG GSA-4082N or NEC ND-6500A?

I have a choice from two slim DVDRW drives for my laptop and not sure which one these to pick.

The specs are similar. The LG GSA-4082N supports DVD-RAM which I don't plan on using.

I am most interested in long term reliability and, of course, actual speed.

    Thanks!

They are a couple of the better laptop drives I have seen. The NEC was a bit faster using TY discs so thats the direction I would go especially if you have no use for DVD-RAM.

I have the NEC 6100a, when I first installed it, I had a big difficulty making the laptop recognizing it as a slave, it was making my HD invisible!
Then I went to the internet and made a research and found out that there is a firmware that can make the ata a reverse ata...
This NEC reads anything you put in it! It is a monster once you manage to install it right.

I would go for the NEC!

P.S: I had an LG DVD/CD-R before the NEC, and it wasn't burning all my cds!

NEC has long has a well deserved reputation for rock solid burns. What's more important to you... A disc that's ready 15 seconds earlier, or a disc that actually works?

I'd also look into a Pioneer, but then again I am a fanboy... :)

I had a great experience with NEC dvd-rw drive. Once I had a disc that had one file on it. No cd-rom on school computers could copy the disk, stopping on the halfway saying it couldnt read it and there was redundency check error. The NEC drive made some creaking wierd noises but was able to copy the whole file in few minutes.

DVDs have also been burnt quickly and reliably. I'm really satisfied with it.
