I'm interested in buying an External HArd Disk(300GB) for my Dell Inspirion 6000.
    Which one would you recommend.
    Have shortlisted Maxtor & Seagate.

or Shld I go in for an Internal hard disk with a Case? If so which case would you recommend for a 300+ hard disk.
Looking a paying less than $250.

    Thanks in adv

Build it your self better and cheaper. You can get the enclosure that you like and the best drive.

Maxtors aren't so highly rated. Personally I got the Western Digital 320GB it was the best bang for the buck back in dec. And very quite, though not the coolest.

The usually most recommended brands for desktop 3.5" drives are WD and hitachi. Seagate have been having some quality problems recently, but if it works it is great too.

BTW in case you are interested I got the nexstar 370-GX enclosure, comes with 3 port powered usb hub and variable speed fan. And best of all it turns on and off automatically with my PC. I LOVE THAT!!! I cannot recomend this enclosure enough, although it is pricey compared to the competition but you get what you pay for!

Yeah, I agree with qwester. Build your own. Buy an enclosure and a internal hdd. its pretty easy. You can get a very good enclosure for less than $40 and a 300GB hdd for around $112.

edit: I have this enclosure: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817145656
When I took it out from the box, This case feel sooo cold. never felt anything this cold before for a case.
