Buy your own hard drive and put it in an nSpire external enclosure (USB/eSATA). Or a Seagate Freeagent Pro.

Buffalo DriveStation or LinkStation:

Iomega also have some very reliable ones:

The advantages of buying one of these packages are the backup/security software and support you get with it. Some of them also have a special power management software. The price is not that much more expensive than buying your own HDD and enclosure, sometimes it can even be less expensive. The enclosure build quality from these packages are usually better too. -
I have bought three WD externals thus far, just because you can find them dirt cheap if you look hard enough. I have always been happy with them, though I am sure there are much better externals / internal + enclosure combos out there.
Just a note, I store all my music and video on these externals and everything 'streams' perfectly. Data access is just as fast as my internal drive (at least I perceive it to be) -
My problem with WD externals is that you cannot take a drive out of the carrier and put it into another if the carrier dies without formatting the drive. So basically if your WD mybook enclosure dies and you need data off, your only option is to buy another mybook and swap drives. It kind of sucks but I'm seeing proprietary formats in increasing amounts of enclosures

Very good thing to consider though.
