Which one of these cables would be best for hooking my laptop upto my 42in samsung plasma (720p)? Theyre both the same price.

I'd take the V1.3a because it's newer.
Not that it makes any difference though. -

Some cables, like Monster's, are designed to look cool and give the customer a sense they're getting more for their money. In reality, some cables may actually deteriorate faster depending on how they're routed. If they're in a wall or specific environment, the cable won't last as long.
Consider also the common sense factor - if a more expensive cable was really that much better, manufacturers like Sony would ship them with their units. But what you'll always see is a fairly inexpensive cable - not super cheap or bad one, but one that is of decent quality and will last you several years or more.
It's important that you get one that has enough length, so always get one that's a size longer than you estimate you need. Most people fail to consider twists and bends when they're routing a cable. -
I guess I'm split on this issue. I consider cabling to be extremely important when it comes to home theatre setups, and I don't like spending money on cheap wiring. However, there is a definite line between buying quality cabling and skimping, just as there is when buying quality cabling and the insanely priced wiring like Monster. To me, it's not a matter of thinking that a higher priced cable is better because of its "features", rather, that by buying a cable, I'm looking for build quality and cable longevity.

Monoprice usually has great deals on cables.
About 5 yrs ago my dad bought a 6ft USB cable from radio shack for around $40 to hook up our printer. When I saw the price I had him return it. We bought a 6ft cable from MPJA for $1.50 with $3 shipping. Good quality cable, still working today.

I buy from monoprice, though dealextreme has good deals too.
What ever you do never buy a monster cable for anything. -

When its 99.999% identical to the $5 cable and the only difference between them is the price. That makes the price what is wrong with buying monster cable.
Heck they even got sued over it!
I like to make my own cables when possible, makes you feel like a man
Who else has RJ45 cables going to there Nintendo Wii for controllers?

monoprice for any cables. the ones from dealextreme are fine but they ship from hong kong so it takes like 2 weeks and monoprice ships from california so it would only take a few days assuming you live in the us

Yes its plexi, yes its RJ45 (lan cable) but on the end is gamecube ends and it goes to my arcade control panel to play games arcade style
Its modular because you just unplug the RJ45 and plug in another console cable to use a different system.
You would have to look at the entire picture gallery to get an idea of what I built: http://picasaweb.google.com/masakakoi/CustomArcadeControlPanel?feat=directlink
For the Wii my favorite games to use the arcade controls are Tatsunoco vs Capcom, Guilty Gear X A Core, Ultimate Shooting Collection, Metal Slug Anthology, and Naruto. -

Ive been using one 3 foot and one 6 foot phillips cable availiable at any walmart and many other stores for about 26 bucks for a couple of years now. The price has dropped on the 6 foot in alot of places as i said i picked both up at different times for 26 bucks.
As long as its not complete crap, not defective and meets the 1.3 standard its a digital signal going through the cable if it reaches its destination in a readable fashion then then result is 100% that of the source. Unlike analog. -
Monoprice, I buy all my stuff there.

I had this a few months ago needing a usb A --> B cable for my camera. I was in radio shack for supplied and they wanted like $35 for a 3ft cable lol...
Went to walmart and it was like $12
But online it was like $2.50 -
For example, they made side-by-side setups in many retailers with one TV hooked up with a MC HDMI cable, and another one with an allegedly inferior HDMI cable - in fact, that other "HDMI cable" is actually a VGA hookup, so of course it will look much worse. -

Problem with online is i want it now. -
Hi all,
just some interesting reading of real testing before buying expensive cables. The only good expensive cable you buy is the one you make yourself ( HDMI not possible yet to get home made)

go here for cables:

And if you buy anything from BestBuy **or** something that says 'Monster' on the packaging, we're all going to slap you silly (heh).
Which HDMI cable is better?
