just wait a hot sec for the seagate 7200.4 unless u desperately need the upgrade. but then who knows, the 7200.4 could be just around the corner or never manifest in the retail market. i am waiting to see the performance of this Vs and SSD option...

I think the seagate is faster, but the WD reviews are better.

You might as well flip a coin if the above didn't decide for you.

I wouldnt go for either. The 7K320 is usually the cheapest 320gb drive on zipzoomfly, tigerdirect or newegg.
Usually they have the 320gb drive for around $80

I have three 7K320's and they are awesome :D
I just cant recommend wd or seagate after all of my failed drives from them.

The WD is faster in fact. That is in real life performance, aka real performance. Only on synthetic benchmarks the seagate seems faster, but it's not :)

And i recommend WD for their reliabillity

If you don't buy a SSd, go for the WD. Fast and quiet in real life usage.

You won't notice batterylife-issues between any of the above 320GB drives. The harddrives doesn't eat up much power, we're only talking about maximum 2.5W a whole notebook usualy is around 70W total. So one harddrive doesn not even take 2% of the total consumption :)

    Hitachi is very very reliable.

Out of the 3 7200 HDD, I would rank them from Hitachi, WD, Seagate in terms of reliability.

    Don't worry.

I have one of the very very first Hitachi 7200 notebook HDD "7K60" and it still working perfectly.

The 7K320 is extremely quiet. I own three of them. The cover of the drive is superior to WD and Seagate. WD and seagate use a conventional one stage cover, while Hitachi uses a triple. This means, more noise dampening, thus a quieter drive.
The 7k320's do not make any vibration at all. I have a E1505 with it installed, and it runs very cool and quiet.

Can't hardly tell it's in there; there may be slightly more vibration than the 250GB 5400rpm dive it replaced but not really noticable to me.
