    Hi,
    I have a choice of either a Mat****a UJ-840D or LG GWA-4082N.

I tend to be a LG fan and I've read Mat****a aren't very good at firmware updates so I've chosen the LG.

Or should I go for the Mat****a? After all its a Panasonic.

By the way, why is Mat****a being censored? Are you trying to make a point against the drive?

Laptop drives in general are not as good as their desktop counterparts. In addition to being slower, their burn quality is not as good. They are made with size, weight and power consumption in mind whereas a desktop drive is plugged into the wall all the time. I personally am a fan of NEC laptop drives. They offer pretty good quality and speed using the right media. Having owned two Mash!ta drives, I can say they aren't that good. Burn quality on both was mediocre. I haven't used any LG DVD burners so no help there.

I'd go for the LG. Heard that Matshi ta drives have too many issues (region lock that cannot be unlocked, no firmware, bad media compatibility).
