Can anyone tell me the main difference you will see between the Intel® Core™ i7 640UM and Overclockable Intel® Core™2 Duo SU7300 1.3GHz (3MB Cache).

    Thanks in advance :D

Just because someone has a little less knowledge than you, it doesn't mean you have to be condescending.

However, I have a feeling that OP is a troll.

Why do you guys think that he is a troll?

To answer the question, in case he isn't a troll, the i7 will outperform the SU7300 even if it is OC'd to 1.6 using the BIOS overclocking in the M11x. But in games the difference won't be much, maybe 3-4 FPS max, and when doing normal tasks you won't notice a difference. The difference will be noticeable when doing processor intensive tasks suck as video encoding.

    1) i'm not sure what a "troll" is, so appologies if i am one but dont know what you mean

    and

    2) is there a difference in things like power required (resulting in better battery life for 1 or the other), or heat produced

    3) i have googled it many times, and looking at benchmarks doesn't do much for me because I have no idea what a 3d test is or how it applies to real life computer applications. . .also it doesn't tell me how battery life is affected, heat produced, actual noticable difference between the two

appologies that i don't speak computer as well as the rest of you but that is why i'm here asking :D

and thanks for the response abaddon4180

    1) http://curezone.com/forums/troll.asp I don't think your a troll anymore.

    2) I think the heat output will be the same. Battery life will be the same or better with i7.

    3) I'd buy the i7, it'l be a lot faster. No cons of getting the i7.

This is for the m11x correct? If so, the i7 will cost you about $300 more. It's faster than the SU7300, but you need to consider if the upgrade is really worth the price based on your needs.

Depending on your usage you may actually get less battery life with the i7. When it turbo boosts it uses more power then the su7300. So if you are in turbo mode alot you will get less battery power. If you disable the turbo boost the chip will be slower then an overclocked su7300 (which i believe goes to 1.73ghz stable not 1.6ghz, it was 1.6 at first and then they got it to 1.73). I think the i7 is a 300 dollar waste of money. You will get almost identical performance from the su7300 and most likely in most situations some more battery life too (they had to up the AC watt adapter to provide enough juice for turbo boosting.) People want to believe the new core i7 ULV is a much better processor but it really isn't. It's more of a con to get people to spend money and upgrade to something that barely even makes a difference.

Turboboost doesn't use more battery. It only activates when its using less than its max TDP. So that means if the CPU is running at stock, but only using 10 watts, it will overclock and say the max is 17 watts. It will overclock until it hits the TDP. No less battery life and much faster than C2D ULV.

Aren't the m11x-R2 owners getting less battery life than the R1 owners?

They are I think, and also IIRC, the performance benchmarks showed that the performance gains weren't that great, at least for the 520UM.

I haven't really kept up to date though so maybe those were only preliminary results.

You can turn TurboBoost off when on battery. But I don't think it will OC when on Power Saver.

it would get the core i7.. IMO SU7300 is best...
