Gateway P7811FX? It's a little more than your budget but it's a **** good deal.
-
That Gateway's overkill for "maybe some gaming". The lots of battery life makes me think low-voltage processor, but desktop replacements don't usually have that. Still I think if there is a desktop replacement with low-voltage processor, that may be a good option for getting both those goals.
As for graphics, a good integrated card (such as ATI HD 3200) actually probably would be sufficient, and would help on the battery life front. A low-midrange dedicated would play it safe on performance while still not taking that much power. But what's really key is to get the largest battery offered for battery life - even with other accomodations the default battery probably won't get you very much life. -
LOL, thanks for your replies guys but im asking specifically on processors for laptops. I need recommendations on those, not the whole laptop itself.
I need to know which is better, Intel or AMD. And I need to know if the Turion, duo, core, etc is better. -
cpu has almost nothing to do with gaming or multimedia.
the latest and best is intel montevina p series chips.
p8400 2.26 or p9500 is good enough for common usage. -

Intel beats AMD. Less heat, more battery life with Intel. Better performance too.
-
Don't go for AMD.
CPUs can help in FPS games, and when watching HD with a useless GPU. Apart from that, it'll depend upon the type of tasks you usually run.
Quad-Cores may go main-stream in the next 2 months.
Which Processor is right for me?
