You should get a 2gb stick so you have 3gb total. Its a cheap and effective upgrade.

If your from the US, check out Newegg RAM

RAM brand doesnt matter as they all perform nearly the same. Though I suggest you stick with the main brands like Kingston, Corsair, Transcend, G-skill.

I have a T61, with a 2 x 2Gb kit of Pc5400 memory installed in it. I have a 32 bit operating system installed, and Vista can only see 3072mb of memory.
If you have a 32 bit operating system, I suggest buying a single 2Gb Pc5300 memory card to give you 3GB of memory.
If you have a 64bit operating system, buying 2 x 2Gb memory cards will be more beneficial. Vista runs better with more memory.

The T61 has two memory slots underneath the front palmrest. I think it only requires 4 screws to remove the front palmrest. Than you can simply access the memory their.

You have to be careful when you buy RAM, because the motherboard of your laptop will probably only support specific types of RAM. Get your motherboard book and check what it says. Also make sure you have open slots where you can plug in the new RAM before you buy it.
