I’m looking to upgrade the RAM in my Alienware M18x from the current 16GB @ 1600 MHz. Main reason for the upgrade is that I’m big into photography and shoot RAW with my D800 which creates some huge files. When I go into CS6 and create HDR images it takes a while and my RAM usage will hit 14 GB. I’m also looking into start doing video edits so rendering that I could use an upgrade.

My question is should I upgrade to 16GB @ 2133 MHz or would I be better off with 32 GB @ 1600 MHz?

    Thanks for any input.

    My vote goes for 32GB @ 1600MHz.

I agree 32GB @ 1600MHz. You won't see any practical improvement with the faster RAM.

For what your doing photo and video the more ram the better....but faster ram won't benefit more....unless your running a server then the speed might benefit you more...

Definitely more RAM over slightly faster (same capacity) RAM...

If the price is even slightly similar, I would go for the fastest modules you can afford - yes, you will feel a difference (much more responsive O/S, etc...).

Can you even buy 2133MHz 8GB Sodimms?

But going to 32GB is not even in question: (you needed that from when you bought your notebook and/or even before you bought the D800).

If I could find 8GB sticks at 2133 I wouldn't even have asked the question as I would have just bought it...would be getting best of both worlds then.

32GB I would get. Just for size and stability.

I guess 32 GB of RAM it will be.

    Thanks everyone.
