Which SSD for OS and which SSD for games (M550 512GB or 840 EVO 500GB)

So I was originally naming in keeping my ADATA XPG SX900 256GB SSD as my OS drive and the 512GB M550 as my games drive. I've also got a 2TB mechanical drive for storage and whatever else. I just purchased a 500GB 840 EVO for a really good price. I didn't plan on buying it, but it was set at a price I couldn't say no to.

Now my question is which drive should I use for my OS and which drive should I use for games? I've got about 250-300GB worth of games.

Keep the M550 for your games, use the EVO as the O/S drive (very snappy).

anything which tilleroftheearth says I follow he is my number 1 idol! he knows SSDs inside and out

Don't forget to Overprovision your 500GB by at least 30% then disable NTFS encryption and NTFS compression in the registry then applye the Samsung Magicial OS Optimization reliability tweaks

That's what I've done on my 512GB 850 PRO and I kept my 1TB 840 EVO for drivers/software installation setup files and I put my data (music, videos, pics) on my mSATA 1TB 840 EVO

I'd third the suggestion for the EVO as an OS drive. Should perform quite a bit better than your current ADATA, plus the Samsung controller should be more reliable than what ADATA uses.

Personally, I don't feel that games really benefit from SSDs outside of save/load times, but if you already have your games on the M550, might as well keep them there.

Got my M550 and 2TB drive in today. Should be getting my EVO sometime next week. I plan to do a clean install and organize my drives. Would I be ok to do the clean install now, using my 256GB ADATA drive in the place of the EVO, and then when my EVO comes in, clone the drive over? Or should I just wait until the drive comes in then do a clean install?

I've never cloned a drive, so not sure if there are any issues I might run into.

you won't get the 100% performance in cloning! cloning is for lazy people. Clean install FTW bro
