    Hi everyone,
I would like to buy a SSD for my Allienware M18X and my choices is within intel 510 or 320 120GB

    510 120GB $244 with 3 yrs warranty
    320 120GB $208 with 5 yrs warranty

is it worth $36 more and 2 yrs less warranty for better performance to get 510?
Is the performance noticeable while using your computer?

    Thanks for your advice

If you're going to bother buying an M18x, you may as well get the best SSD. $36 and going from 3yrs to 5yrs warranty is comparatively not a big deal. Looking at another detail, your laptop only has a 3yr warranty. How do you feel about that, in comparison to having 5yr?

I wouldn't pay much attention to the difference in warranty. In 3 years time a 120GB SSD will seem like a joke.

Performance wise it will be hard to notice the difference, unless you're an extreme multi tasker.

Given that the Alienware M18x uses SATA II at 3 Gbit/s, you are wasting money on the 510's capability to use SATA III at 6 Gbit/s. The M18x cannot take advantage of the 510's SATA III.

I stand corrected. I swear when I read the M18x specs a few days ago it was only SATA II. Checking the online manual in the specification section:

    http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/M18x/en/MM/MM_en.pdf

Ops, I found the source of my confusion. I glanced and saw the eSATA specs which is SATA II. Thanks JCrichton!

No worries. The only reason I know is because I just splurged on a 250gb 510 for the new beastie. :) Heh.
