I am considering buying a SSD for my Asus G50VT-X6. Since it already has a 320GB HDD which is more than enough for data, the SSD will only need to store the OS and a few programs so 40-60 GB would be more than enough for me.

I was considering the Intel X25-V 40GB for $130 but for the same price (after rebates) I can get the OCZ Agility 60GB.

Feedback from anyone who has used the drive would be great as would suggestions for other drives. My budget is no more than $150.

My first choice would be the 80GB or 160GB X25-M, but seeing that that's way, way over $150, I think the 60GB Agility is a better buy than the 40GB X25-V given the pricing situation.

This. They may be pricey, but they are well worth it, particularly if you have Windows 7.

If you buy a 40GB, I believe you should only use 30GB (?) for good performance. That's not a lot for Windows 7 and programs.

I'm not sure if it's 30GB or more though.

The Torx are fine Indillix drives, but I think that particular one is out of his price range

The Intel G1 at that price is pretty good. I know nothing about Tony Trim, but by now the Intel is pretty resistant to performance degradation so I wouldnt worry about it.

Does the write performance even matter that much on an OS drive?

I checked out the drive recommended by nando4. Just to clarify, the 1.8" SSD is by Intel and only the 2.5" adapter is made by anther company?

Rule of thumb is 80%, I think. So 32GB, technically.

For installing it matters a lot.

For applications like Firefox random write performance does matter, but I expect the Intel 40GB will write fast enough for that.
