A slightly tricky comparison. Each will win on certain things, I would assume. If your application only makes use of one core and is not memory intensive the Athlon will leave the Core 2 standing, as it's clock speed is nearly double. On the other hand, for multitasking, the Core 2 will win because it has more memory and two cores to run the processes through.

In terms of hard drive performance, they will be similar, because I believe the limit on performance of an SSD at the moment is the transfer speed of the SATA bus, and you will mainly notice that the SSD is faster at seeking, I should think. But it will be quieter and more robust.

So really, the answer is in certain situations it will be faster and others it will be slower.

Well these are what I use the computer for, so what do u think who will win?

    Web development tools:
(All these programs are always opened together same time)
    - Dreamweaver
    - Photoshop (Simple tasks)
    - FTP
    - At least 4 different browsers with several windows in each browser
    - Listening to radio online
    - Chatting

    Thanks in advance

Well...how much GHz does the Intel Core 2 Duo processor run at anyway? If it is maybe around what the desktop is - it'll be better. It's RAM is 2 GB anyways, so as Hmmmmmm said - Photoshop benifits more from your RAM. The laptop I'm guessing may have an Intel GMA, but since you don't really do gaming, I'm sure it'll be ok.

    Go for the laptop.

I'll have both anyways! but i was just wishing that the Laptop is much faster because my Desktop is already 2.5 yrs old :)

So it will be frustrating to get something newer by 2.5 yrs and costs like over 3000$ and still same speed or slower!

Well...sure it'll be faster... unless you're getting a ripoff. But, you're desktop is only 2.5 years old... you sure you need a new computer now? You should probably wait 2 more years for Microsoft's new OS to come unless you REALLY need it now like for school or something.
