Which is Better, PC2-4200 or PC2-5300 RAM?
My CPU FSB is only 533MHz.
Both ram is by Kingston, and same price.

    Thanks,
    Allan

but the higher clock rate won't matter if his CPU FSB isn't that high right?

    ^ Exactly.

If he buys the pc5300 it will probably just be more expensive and it will clock down to 533mhz when running dual channel as opposed to pc4200 which will probably be cheaper and run at the speed its supposed to run at.

but technically which one will be faster in my laptop? isn't the pc5300's latency higher than pc4200?

No it is the same. PC5300 has a higher latency when running at 667mhz but when it downclocks to 533mhz the latency is the same as PC4200.

It really doesnt matter what you buy. It will be the same.
