    Which is better, i5-5200U+520 or A10-8700p+R6 (15W)

From some research, I believe the i5 is better in general, but the A10 is better for the onboard GPU.

However, I read the 35W version is decent, but laptop manufacturers run it at 15W so it's a lot weaker. Therefore on sites like Gamedebate, it says the R6 is better than my 7670M (which is fine, since this is a replacement for a broken laptop) but that's based on the 35W version.

So just how bad is the 15W version? What exactly is limited, if not clock speed (since it's advertised at 3.2GHz burst like the 35W version)

My current laptop has an i5-3340M + 7670M so as long as performance is similar that's fine, I know onboard graphics won't be as good as a 930M and up, I'm fine with that.

The multithreaded performance would put these processors on (effectively) equal footing.

The single threaded performance would give the edge to the Intel (by 14%).

But that is only when we compare the 15W TDP Intel chip to the 35W AMD 'solution'.

The 2D performance of the HD 520 igpu is ~69% better than the R6...

The 3D performance of the HD 520 igpu is ~18% better than the R6...

Of course, this is in raw compute power... in actual games? The drivers may possibly make a bigger difference...

However, with the right O/S (Win10...) the Intel may be further ahead with current and future DX12 games... but that is just an educated guess at this time. ;)

Compared to your Radeon 7670M? It is a little weaker, yeah.

But considering that the whole Intel solution uses less power than your current GPU? I would still think the Intel solution (or anything above it) is the one to follow today.

Thanks so much for the great post.

So many places are selling 8700p+R6 laptops as "AMD gaming laptops", which might even be justified if it was the 35W version (since it'll should modern games on low detail) so it kinda sucks how even these are the weaker 15W version.

But I think I'll either get the 5200u or try and find something with HD 530 instead if it's a similar price, or ideally get a deal on a dedicated GPU, even if it's a 920M/930M

    Thanks again!

    You're welcome.

As Kana Chan pointed out; you'll need a Skylake platform for the HD530 graphics or higher.

    Glad I could help a little. :)
