    - ignore the title asking about 64gb, i onl need 60 but will get 120gb in case i later need more room.

i am going to buy a SATA II SSD for my ASUS K52F Laptop as was told the SATA III wont do anymore than the SATA II in my laptop,

So which of these 2 ssd's is better/faster/more reliable, as they're the same price i dont mind which i buy::

    - INTEL 520 120GB SATA II SSD - $85
    - CRUCIAL v4 128GB SATA II SSD - $85

for the INTEL SSD Newegg says i need a TAX ID number, but as i live in the UK and a relative will be buying and posting to me, do all US citizens have this TAX ID number? Or do you have to be self-employed / own a business?

Also, some ssd's come with and without Transfer/install kits, how important are these kits?
can i still do everything without one, or are there substitutes i can use instead?

    - i have just bought 2x Kingston 4gb RAMS,
Is it possible this upgrade in RAM from 3 to 8gb is sufficient to speed everything up on my laptop? or would a SSD SATA II still vastly improve/speed everything up?

    thanks

Intel 520 Series vastly superior to Crucial V4. Don't believe SATA2 vs. SATA3 debates: always buy the newest tech (compatible with what you now have, of course).

    Install kits? A screwdriver. :)

Always do a clean install if you want the most stable and reliable platform for the long haul.

    none of the above.

    go for Samsung 830 128GB.

and nothing wrong if you decide to clone your OS to the SSD, just make sure the partition gets aligned. If not then there are tools that can align it after the clone. Or better make the partition first and then restore image of your OS onto that one.

if you insist to stick with your choice then get the Intel one as being better of the two listed.

If going for a SSD that small I would recommend the 330 or the 335... or just the Samsung 830

    Thanks for the replies,

As i know very little about SSD's in general, am not sure why the install kit is needed?
am i right in thinking the install kit takes everything off your HDD and transfers to the SSD/SATA drive?
if thats correct., All i intend to do is put the bare minimum from my hdd to the ssd, so dont need a install kit, right as id only save the OS (Im told takes 30GB and my documents
    /music/videos/documents/files) = 30GB, TOTAL = 60GB

so getting the 128GB to be on the safe side if i use more memory in future,

Does everyone else agree the Samsung 830 is superior to the Crucial v4, and Intel 520/330 ?

    thanks all

+1. The 830 is excellent if a little pricier.

I found this review of the v4 a few days ago: AnandTech - Crucial v4 (256GB) Review If it's too long to read the last two paras sum it up quite nicely.

thanks,i will avoid the crucial v4!

as ive had mixed advice about what my ASUS K52F can handle, can someone please confirm with certainty whether my K52F can utilize a SATA III to its full speed/benefits, or if it wont be any different to a SATA II in my laptop?

Also what is the main difference between the Samsung 830 and 840?
as the 840 costs £30 more so would buy if its worth the extra

it doesnt matter that much if your laptop can use SATA 2 or 3, the SSD itself is a top notch. None of mine can utilize SATA 3 yet I have two of those drives and I'm very pleased with the performance.

dont get the regular 840. Either get the 830 or the 840 Pro series. The regular 840 uses TLC cells, no good.

Just buy it from the UK, there are some pretty decent prices these days. £130 for 256 GB samsung 830. Its around £75 for 128GB. Good website to check the deals is HotUKDeals - Deals, Discounts & Voucher Codes Just search on the top SSD and it should show you any good offers in the UK.
