Intel Core Duo T2050(1.60GHz)
or
AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-56 1.8GHz
or
Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66GHz?
I want to use my laptop as sort of a media center and I'm worried about heat and leaving it on for long periods of time. I have narrowed it down to these three laptops and I just can't decide. The Core Duo is the cheapest of course, the Turion 64 X2 is $175 more, and the Core 2 Duo is $250 more. For my intended use of the laptop I believe any of these processors will work fine, BUT if one is significantly cooler then the other two then I might as well go for it. All three are within my budget.
Thank you in advance!

This is difficult to answer, because the notebook's cooling system matters alot. If the Intel's are from the same notebook, and have the same cooling system, then they should both run about the same. Core Duo and Core 2 Duo have almost the same TDP, so the heat generated will be about the same. Also, they will clock down and give off even less heat. The AMD is a different story. I'm not too sure of where about that would be. Having said that, the difference between the three is very little. There won't be something like 10 C difference between the three. Maybe a difference of 3-4 degrees.

I would say the Turion should run the hottest of the three, mine runs quite hot with some extended usage.

All three notebooks are part of the Fujitsu A series(A6010 and A3110). Thank you for the quick reply. If there's not really a big difference between the three, I guess I should just decide on price and looks(Silver or White, respectively).
Thanks =)

Oh. I was under the wrong impression then. I thought if there was any difference, that the Turion X2 would be the cooler processor. Thanks.
I should add that my impression was based on nothing more than what I had thought I heard. So that's why I needed to ask. -
Varies a lot. rahulnirnal has a Turion that runs hot. Macbooks are perfect evidence that Core Duo run hot. Every CPU will run hot if the cooling system isn't quite up to the task.

I am afraid I haven't had much experience with processors in general, I have mostly heard that AMDs tend to run hotter than Intel's and get less battery life as well.
I wish to clarify and say that my Turion runs at a normal temp. when all I do is things like word processing and web surfing but for some reason, it soon gets extremely hot when I do something as simple as playing a 2D game like Simcity 3000. -
Save yourself about $200 and go with the core duo. The difference in heat is very small and is really dependent on the cooling system. The performance difference between the 3 is small.
FYI I believe Core Duo 31w TDP, Core 2 Duo 34w TDP, & Turion x2 31w TDP. -
Core Duo, I think.

As posted, how hot the laptop gets is dependent on the cooling system. If there's a poor cooling system, then even non-high-powered components will pose a problem. Take Acer, for example. They have the poorest cooling out of any notebooks in my opinion.
I wouldn't base your buying decision on which processor runs hotter. -

if your that worried about heat issues, use a cooling pad.

I don't know which ones consume least power, but I know the one that can consume the least power will run coolest, because depending on the voltage, the more it uses, the more power it consumes and runs hotter. check which cpu
that is in the fujitsu that have the longest battery life.
Which of these processors will run the coolest?
