I really want to know which one is better between
    Core 2 Duo, 2.8Ghz
    and Core 2 Extreme, 3.08Ghz

People say Core 2 Duo Ghz is times 2. so its 2x2.8Ghz
but is core 2 extreme also times by 2?

    thx
    sorry for bad english

    Im not 100% sure, but
    1) the extreme has a higher clock, 3.08 compared to 2.8
    2) I think there is a different infrastructure
    3) It isnt really 5.6ghz, its 2 cores running at xx.xx each

they are exactly the same. just some are hand picked to be more stable.
The extreme come with an unlocked multiplier so you can overclock.
    That's pretty much it.

If you're going to overclock, maybe get the extreme.

But you can sometimes overclock the non-extreme with software like setfsb or a hardware mod.

Of course the Core 2 Extreme is better.

    1) the extreme has a higher clock speed
    2) it has an L3 cache. Core 2 Duo does not
    3) the 9300 has quad cores (if you're talking about that one), while the 9100 has 2 cores

and as said by spybenj, you can't add the clockspeeds together. it doesn't work that way with the Core 2 family.

Core 2's do not have L3 caches. Only the new i7's do.

The simple answer to this is: Core 2 Extreme is the fastest of the Core 2 family. As was said before, only the extremes can be overclocked if your laptop allows that.

oops my bad (still thinking in the Pentium era). but it does have a super large and "Dynamic cache thingy" (whatever that is that is fast).

The extreme processor is a dual core as well, so yes it runs faster. It also has an unlocked multiplier, allowing overclocking in computers that will allow it (which sadly is not that many).

Oh, and it doesn't make a solid 2x2.8GHz. You see, the way the 'dual core' system works is each core can handle a different 'thread' of information. If information is only supplied to it by a program in one thread then it can only process it with one core, meaning 2.8GHz. Trust me, if it worked like 2x2.8GHz then everyone would be using quad core processors by now.

Considering he's talking about clocks of 2.8GHz and 3.06GHz I'd wager he's talking about the T9800 (At least I think it's the T9800...can't remember exactly) and the X9100 dual core extremes, and not the quad cores. And no, all of the core 2 line has L2 cache.

EXTREME, how can it not be better :p

If both are dual core processors, than its clock speed x 2 for overall processing power. However a 2.8Ghz dual core processor shows up as 2.8Ghz, not 5.6Ghz

The line of Extreme Processors are just another Intel advertising gimmick to get people to pay 2-3x as much for a minimum gain in performance

dont pay attention to this person's response, he has no idea what he is talking about.

1)not all extreme CPUs have a higher clock speed, for explame, the T-7800 vs the X7800. both run at 2.6 but the X7800 has unlocked multiplier. they have the same L2 chace at 4mb and same FSB at 800mhz. one is rated at 35w the other is at 44w

2)the C2D was never designed to have L3 cache. only the new I7 CPUs (desktop or mobile version) have L3 cache.

3)some people like a dual core over the quad. it doesn't really mean the quad is better. some people prefer a cooler running laptop or longer battery life. most games are not even designed for quad core yet but it's changing. so the dual core with a high mhz speed will do better on single or dual thread programs or games.
