I am about to upgrade RAM for my laptop: PC4300 DDR2 533. How could you compare "Qimonda" and Cosair with the same price? Which one should I buy?

I would definitely go for the Corsair, they have a really good reputation when it comes to RAM memory.

Just had to have a quick look and see what this Qimonda is. Well, it looks like you would be safe (safer?) to purchase from them as well as Corsair. From Wikipedia:

"Qimonda AG (NYSE: QI), the new memory company carved out of Infineon Technologies AG on May 1, 2006, is the 2nd largest DRAM company worldwide (according to the industry research firm Gartner Dataquest), a leader in 300mm manufacturing, and one of the top suppliers of DRAM products for the PC and Server markets. Infineon, the company from which Qimonda was spun off, still controls an 85% stake."

In other words, yeah, they're BIG. So nevermind that the name isn't familiar, go with either one!! I'm guessing they may even sell to Corsair.

It's probably an ODM (original design manufacturer) or OEM (original equipment manufacturer), which means it supplies RAM to other companies when other companies subcontract them out to build the RAM for them.

Perhaps just like Asus, which used to be only an ODM/OEM by supplying notebooks to Sony/Apple and supplying motherboards to all sorts of desktop manufacturers, turned into their own little company with a dedicated line of laptops.

Thank you for your comment. Qimonda was the second (2005) and the third (2006) largest RAM maker after Samsung and Hunix. It probably sells RAM/components to many RAM companies that are well-kown to individual users, such as Kingston, Kingmax, cosair, Transend.... In many cases, It also sells RAM directly to laptop makers. Infineon, Qimonda have been installed by Sony for quite a lot Vaio laptop.

I a gree with FREN, that's why it is difficult to see Qimonda RAM on the RAM market.

Qimonda is a large company and they produce a lot of the memory used in graphics cards so they cannot be bad. I say go for whichever one is cheaper.

I would still stick with corsair though, I think they provide a lifetime warranty or has this changed?

    Hi all,

How come no mention of CRUCIAL memory??

Also - I believe that the original post(er) meant he has PC4200 NOT 4300 which is rated at 533MHz?
