Here's my question:I have a Toshiba Satellite 64mb and 600Mhz here, I was thinking of upgrading it's RAM (buying a 128mb module). Well, if you guys have ever passed by a situation like this, I would like to question:
Kingston DIMM SDRAM PC100 128mb 144 pin
or
Infineon DIMM SDRAM CL2 PC100 128mb 144 pin
I was thinking about that "CL2", but I came to conclude that it has nothing particular with the Infineon one, it might be only a name - or not - so if you guys can explain what that means, I would be pleasured.
Also, there's any performance charts regarding memo's this aged?
And to finish: when I thought about using this computer, I realized that would be "best" to choose XP SP3 beyond 98, and it's running, well, not THAT smooth, but I can easily use this SO for a while. I was thinking here: did I made a bad choice? I'm not using this laptop to use any heavy program, just surfing on the internet (using Opera) and other commom things, would the 98 make these applications faster, or not? I mean, have ever one of you passed by a situation like this, and felt that the Winndows 98 was REALLY faster, that would compensate? I'm asking this because I came to think about it after optimizing XP so much, like boot, services, well, a LOT of tweaks I did, I would be really upset if I just formated this one and after using 98 didn't felt that it was faster.
Sorry for such a long story guys, but if you can help me, so please, help me.
Thanks a lot, cheers.

I think windows 2000 professional is going to give you the best performance. Its either that or xp home edition.
The memory upgrade should work. What is the memory in your system now?
Their really is no high speed PC100 memory. I think it is always CL2. I can test if you like, I have a desktop which still uses PC100
I would pick which ever is cheaper. Its not worth it to invest a ton into an older laptop. You may want to search ebay or hardforum for 128mb cards. Hardforum has a very active for sale page, so you may get lucky. Someone may just give a 128mb card to you

2000 professional over XP and 98? It's faster than both or by "performance + security"? Well, I can't really tell what's the memory on my system. About the mem, I'm going to get it for a, well, cheap price, although it's already used.
Thanks a lot for the feedback pal, I'm waiting for more.

Anyone experienced this situation?

2000 should be about as fast or faster than 98, but its more stable and reliable, XP is probably going to run kinda slow on your machine, I would agree that 2000 is your best choice unless you NEED something that XP has.

XP basically is Windows 2000 with a facelift. However, Windows 2000 is leaner and should run better on older hardware. Win 98 is based on an inferior kernel and will be less stable.
My recommendation - Windows 2000 if you have it. If not, XP with SP3 slip-streamed and themes and some other features (e.g. Indexing) disabled to make it perform more like Windows 2000.
Which one would you choose (regarding RAM)?
