Option A) Have two configs, 1 SSD for my OS and applications, 1 HDD for all my data and documents.
Option B) Buy the new 500GB 7200RPM HDD.
Option B is $200 cheaper and it seems easier to do.

go with the 500GB drive for now, SSD's will continue to drop in price. Hopefully, they will get a better, affordable controller that isn't the JM602B.

Or get a 7200rpm 320gb for 60 bucks, buy an ssd in a year or so
-
Another problem with the SSD - they are quite "untested" in terms of reliability, HDDs have been around for longer.
And, SSDs are "smaller". -
I'd either go with Option B, or the Option C that mullenbooger suggested, depending on how much space/speed you need. SSD's are still expensive and the quality varies a lot - the ones that are somewhat reasonably priced are usually of iffy quality. Buying it aftermarket you'll be able to know you're getting a good-quality one if you want one and do your research, but that begs the question of if you really want to spend enough to get a good-quality one. Poor-quality ones can result in worse performance than even non-top-of-the-line hard drives.

option b is the way to go. ssd will drop in price. so just save the 200 and use it to upgrade to ssd when it is cheap.
Which option do I choose?
