    1: no idea
2: not really, some have gotten basic one finger swipes running. I tend to ignore them fully and use keyboard shortcuts or a mouse
3: most seem to create a VM ( virtual machine ) of Ubuntu or Mint that I know. ( use the 64 bit versions )
    4:
5: Ubuntu is just one of the many Linux distributions, there are literally hundreds to chose from here is a common list DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux, BSD.
6: it can, it depends on your systems specs, and how you allocate CPU and other resources to the operating systems.
7: you can run two fine normally, again depending on your system you can have issues with 3 or more just as you would an actual Mac. however you need compatible hardware and drivers ( kexts )

I find my VM very good ( I run it on a high spec portable workstation ) however I also native boot hackintosh in which it is far faster than even the most current rMBP's for my needs.

as for natively ... yes I find lots of lagging when I am editing video due to heat/throttling and lack of a top end OpenCL/FP64 capable video card on my actual Apple products.
