I'm getting a 13" HP notebook, but unsure which processor I should get. Here are the options:

    INCLUDED IN PRICE:
    AMD Athlon(TM) II Neo Processor K125 (1.7GHz, 1M L2 cache)
    +ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 4225 Graphics

    ADD $50
    AMD Athlon(TM) II Neo Dual-Core K325 (1.3GHz, 2M L2 cache)
    +ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 4225 Graphics

    ADD $100
    AMD Athlon(TM) II Neo Dual-Core K325 (1.3GHz, 2M L2 cache)
    + 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5430

    ADD $150
    AMD Turion(TM) II Neo Dual-Core K625 (1.5GHz, 2M L2 cache)
    + 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5430

I will mainly use this notebook for internet browsing (with many tabs open), video downloading/watching, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office Suite. I like to able to run a lot of programs at the same time. Also how much RAM should I get? This will be my secondary laptop that I bring to work or travel with me.

I currently have an HP mini that has Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz w/512KB L2 cache and 2GB of ram, and I think it's a bit slow.

My budget is under $800, and my preference is a 11" to 13" screen on a good-looking, thin & light notebook. I would be open to another notebook than the HP if it meets my criteria.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. :)

Buy the most expensive one if you can afford it, if you can't, work your way
    down :)

the 150$ one is a rip off .. 50$ for 0.2ghz.. on an amd processor

get at least a dual core, so either the 50 or 100
if it were me, i'd just get the 50 because i bet the faster radeon will = higher heat and my experience with hp laptops is that you could pretty much fry eggs on them

to be honest, i don't recommend getting this laptop, from the specs, it sounds like a rip off compared to what is offered now

i believe it is always best to avoid AMD mobile cpus and Radeon mobile gpus.. even though they cost less

anything smaller than 13" in the 800$ price range would be a netbook, so if you want notebook performance, it will probably be a 13 inch minimum

personally i would stay away from hp and acer, so if it's within price range, try to look through dell and asus.. and maybe samsung if it's available in your area

    also get 2gb ram minimum

ATI 5xxx series GPUs should be fairly cool, actually, since they're made on a smaller process. I haven't had experience with the newer CPUs, but a Turion X2 in an HP from about two years ago sometimes hit 90C on the cores. I'm not comfortable with that.

That being said, from what I read the Neos are generally superior in performance to their Intel counterparts. I'm also assuming their heat isn't as bad as it used to be.

It should serve your purpose nicely. :)
Dont really think 0.2 GHz would make any difference at all, and all the CPUs are from the newest AMD 45nm batch.

forge is probably right, i'm not familiar with the neo processors and i'm basing my assumptions on past amd processors and having been a past user

also, to correct what i mentioned before, ati radeon are good and not necessarily cheaper than their nvidia counterparts, but i feel that this is only the case with their more powerful gpus, and not the case for their gpus offered in the thin-and-light sector

of course, i could be wrong as things could have changed in the past 1.5+ years that i haven't been keeping up with laptop tech

Thanks for all the advice! I think I'm ok with Netbook performance, although the "Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz w/512KB L2 cache and 2GB of ram" on my current netbook is a bit slow to my liking, I can live with it based on the size and the price. I'm actually open to other models and brands too. What I'm truly looking for is a 11 to 13" netbook that is light, thin, perform relatively well with my common tasks and most importantly, looks good. If you have better suggestions, it would be great.

I'm actually a little hesitant going past 12" since it might not be truly portable, but the 10" screen I have right now is a bit small.

I used to have an old 12" toshiba sattelite but I could never get used to small
one. Once you get used to large ones, you can't go smaller.

i would consider another laptop.. this one doesn't have a powerful enough CPU IMO and the upgrades are a rip off.. u might want to consider other brands like Asus UL30JT.... IMO , hp usually runs hottest and has crappiest battery life.. also consider Acer's timilineX series..
