I need to decide between 2 different models, I know it's my choice obviously, but I'm interested in knowing what people here would prefer.

Which screen size would you prefer?
    1920x1080 on 15.6"
    1920x1200 on 17"

To be honest, I can't really decide, the 15.6" is cheaper and smaller, the 17" is obviously quite a lot bigger and more expensive.

I'd go #2 in almost any situation, but that's only because I don't really like the 15.6" form factor, and after getting my G73, I realize how nice it is to have a big laptop.

BTW, is the 17" by any chance the HP 8740w?

Ha, yes, the 15.6" is HP 8540w, the 17" is HP 8740w, both Dreamcolor panels.

As Phil said. Unless you're constrained by budget.

Is the 15.6 also IPS (dreamcolor-2)?

The 17" is not THAT heavy; the elitebooks in general are very compact, and feel like 15.4" old.

Screen size and resolution is like RAM and HD performance/capacity.

    You can always use more.

Just know that if you do opt for the 17", you'll be spoiled for life. :)

The 17 x 1920x1200 is clearly better so unless the 15.6 is much cheaper and that matters to you....

I always err on the side of the smaller laptop, and I'd assume the 15.6" is smaller. The reason for that is mobility is generally an important aspect of a notebook, but I don't know your situation.

Jeez, they're both huge. Of those two, definitely 15.6".

You have no idea how massive a 17" laptop is until you've carried an extra-large backpack with it and a textbook in it all across the hilly UCLA campus for the whole day

In all seriousness, though, I'd prefer 1920x1080 on 15.6" by far - I'm a pixel density junkie, and I'd never buy any laptop over the 15" form factor (which I already feel is very large). If it's cheaper, then that's an added benefit. If you've never owned a 17" laptop before, I'd test one out and carry it around for a while before deciding that it is what you want and committing to the purchase.

LOL, 15.6 isn not huge; it's standard. However, get the 17" ONLY if you can really use/need the extra real estate. That's the only way you're going to be able to justify the added weight and size.

as midnightsun said, i assume the 15.6 has the higher pixel density so all other screen specs being equal, it should be a higher quality display

that and it is lighter, so i wouldn't consider the 17.. ive seen desktops smaller than 17 inch laptops.. or in other words, 17 inch laptops are more like desktops with a screen attached

Some people live or die based off ~200 extra vertical pixels you get between 1080p and 1900x1200. I'm agreeing with the others, the 15.6 will be easier on your shoulders at the cost of those vertical pixels.

Plus, you can watch that awesome 1080p epic fail video on Youtube without any black bars. ...Just saying.

I just need to move it around the house, but the 15" is much cheaper, I still need to try it first though, but few stores have 15" at full HD.
