Hello,
My sister has an Acer TravelMate laptop. It's about 2 years old and she hasnt had any problems with it until yesterday. Yesterday, she noticed a white horizontal line going straight across the center of the screen. The line doesn't move/disappear, it's just a fixed line across the screen. Both of my sisters claim they didn't drop the laptop at all. I obviously dont know for sure whether or not they did bang it on something/drop it/etc. but they are usually pretty careful with it.
What could cause this? Is this usually caused by damage to the LCD? Could it be an issue with whatever is lighting the screen?
Thanks in advance.![]()

it's the display, a dead line of pixels

Sometimes it's just an issue of the connection to the LCD coming loose. If this is the case, sometimes you can correct it by pressing down on the part of your laptop just above the keyboard.
Try rebooting if you haven't already. Also, sometimes reseating the ram fixes it.
If none of that works, than you're probably out of luck.. -
Horizontal fixed lines are pretty much never connection related. Just a bad screen.

I've seen a horizontal line fixed once, but I will admit that it was a blue line, not a white one. White line sounds to me like it's probably dead. But hey, you never know.. and it doesn't hurt to try.

Thanks for the responses.
My dad said he brought the computer in to have it looked at today and the white line was gone...so apparently it is not a stuck/fixed white line (the past 2 days it was just there, not moving or disappearing).
Is this sounding more like a connection issue since it is now coming/going? (well, now going, but we'll see if it comes back.) -
Could be bad contact on one of the LCD tabs. Could be bad news because this is not something that can be repaired. If they juggled a bit with it and it works fine now then chances are it'll go bad again.
I suggest you ask the repair shop what exactly they did. -
