So I just got my laptop on Saturday, and I know this is not a dead pixel, because using multiple dead pixel testers, the top left corner changes just fine, and when I just log into my windows 7 account the white dot is not there, but about maybe 10 seconds after windows has been loaded, it turns to a white dot.

I have read on google searching for "white pixel top left corner" that this is an ati driver problem?

Is there a way to fix this?

If it shows up in a screenshot, I don't think it's a dead pixel. I know that, and maybe someone here more knowledgeable can tell you what exactly it is. I'm interested to know. Have you tried different drivers?

It's most likely some utility program that's been badly programmed. You may need to start killing some services and such to see what it is. It may take other Dell users to help you find it.

I have found that if I terminate "dwm.exe" which is desktop windows manager, it dissapears.

But if i disable that, window preview on the taskbar doesn't work anymore...

You probably should ask in dell's owner's thread. I remember I saw that on dell xps 1645 too. But never on other laptop.

might be a virus. a friend of mine had this white box (probably larger than a pixel) at the corner. and if clicked...err forgot what happened, but it was bad.

Try a couple things and let us know how this goes:

-see if you have anything in graphics options that says Panel Fit and there should be some options like FullScreen, CenterImage or MaintainAspectRatio.

-lower your screen resolution but make sure it's the same widescreen aspect just lower, bigger pixels.

-change the wallpaper, use a JPG then a BMP file, change the way the wallpaper fills the screen if you can. Then select no wallpaper of any kind.

What graphics chip does your laptop have?

Save your current Theme and switch to a diff one, one included with Windows, try the classic too. Then switch back to your saved, switch to smaller/bigger icons and back.

Looks like a windows aero problem since dwn.exe is the aero service.. try other themes and see if it goes... last resort would be to reinstall ATI card drivers... get the 10.3 catalyst beta...
