Who bought and SSD last year Black Friday (Samsung or Crucial)

So I want to buy a Samsung 840 evo/pro or crucial M500. I know everyone is looking for an SSD on Black Friday but I do know that often times not every brand or every product of a company drops their price on Black Friday. So that leads to my main questions what can one expect in 2013 based on those who purchased in 2012. Also what was the percent price drop?

1). I want a 256 or 500Gb hard drive from either Crucial Or Samsung. Were crucial and Samsung drives on sale last year?
2) How long were the sales?Hours sales or until-sold -out sales?

I am aware one has to jump on the prices but last year I watched a website from 2pm-1am on Thursday for a tv that was supposed to go on sale but it never did or so I thought. A few days later someone posted a review of the tv with the Black Friday price. I never even saw the price drop so I could not even say I missed a sale.

3) Did/do the SSD sales start on the Thursday or Friday or CyberMonday?

One limitation that won't change is that I can and will buy only through Amazon.com

If you are only buying on Amazon, don't expect any amazing deals. Newegg usually has the best deals as the quantities they buy allow them to run special promotions.

 

I bought an OCZ Agility 3 120GB last year for 80$ on CanadaComputers.

 

Really? I was stuck on Amazon because of the famous customer service. But I have heard good things about newegg too. WHy or how does new egg have a bigger quantity than Amazon?

 

I'll second the NewEgg recommendation when it comes to SSDs.

No clue on how they do it, but I've picked up quite a few good deals in not-so-distant past.

Obviously, YMMV.

 

Amazon has good customer service, mostly because of the return policy. Newegg also has good customer service but specializes in computer parts...

No, I think my chances are what are the likelihood that the Samung 840 line and Cruciam M500 line of SSD will be on sale at or around Black Friday. I was set on the Samsung but hearing now that it may not be compatible with my Lenovo T440s which may have a scheduled delivery for Black Friday so I need to expand my options.

And yes in light of my uncertainty of SSD compatibility, Amazon's return policy is why I wanted to stick with Amazon. However, I have heard good things about Customer service at newegg. So I will look into them.

 

Newegg is a good company. Check the return policy. Personally they shipped me a HDD once that was damaged in shipping, the SATA connector was broken. I called them and they sent another drive. It was very easy and they didn't even need the bad drive back. Every other order has been problem free.

These are both top rated web companies coming in as number one Amazon and two Newegg (B&H brought up the rear the last time I checked), so you really can't go wrong with either one. Newgge may have better pricing but there inventory goes fast. You have to have your hand on the trigger at the right time or you'll miss out.

 

You are right about that. I've literally had to *KNOW* a sale was coming, and then refresh every second and grab it and check out immediately. I've even missed out on products while doing that they went so fast. At least Newegg usually implements reasonable maximum limits (usually) so hoarders can't buy 100 of something and artificially raise the eBay prices.
