Not sure where to put this question and I hope this never happens to me or anyone else but if this has happened to your laptop what happened and what was the damage? Was it repairable and did the laptop work fine afterwards or was it never the same?
In a way this could be an upgrade, gives you the opportunity to move up to a newer rig. []

Dropped my old Compaq onto a carpeted floor from 3 feet several times. It always landed on its feet. Damage? Loud fan. Works fine otherwise. If you purchased through American Express, you can drop it all you want for the first 90 days.

I knew a guy that didn't "drop" his laptop but when getting into his car he put the laptop on the roof while fumbling for keys to open the car door. He jumped in after opening the door and drove off (laptop on roof still) and it kind of slid off the roof halfway down the street. It didn't fare so well, screen was badly cracked and casing but it still booted up. It was used as an excuse to upgrade to something new though [

Wow, I trust that there aren't many incidents of this nature. Now, I'm considering accidental coverage. LOL [

I'm using a laptop that has been dropped by a former employee. A Toshiba Satellite Pro that was returned to our office unable to power up. The DVD drive disk carrier had broken off and this part did not return with the laptop. We sent it to a repair shop for an estimate but the cost to repair was too high. The technician reported that the laptop needed a new main board and obviously a new DVD drive.
I managed to repair the power switch and was able to turn the notebook on. I also found a used replacement DVD drive although it was from a Dell notebook. I managed to get this working in the Toshiba. Aside from some very minor dents on the casing, the black bezel on the DVD drive, and damage to the rear serial port the laptop works very well. I am still very surprised there was no screen damage even after the somewhat incredible account of the notebook being dropped down some stairs.
Who's dropped their laptop & what was the damage?
