Subject asks it all... Everywhere Samsung 2TB SSD's are now out of stock.
-
Because I bought them all! Lol. I actually do have two of them which I plan to install in my P870DM. I'll be selling these once 4TB become available and affordable.

I noticed that as well, about the same time as the new Samsung T3 2TB portable came out
I think they over allocated to the enclosure based product:

I have had to do that in the past, buy the enclosure version and pull a drive to get an internal drive for a build.
Fry's has an odd notice for the T3 version:
http://www.frys.com/product/8723061...YeMA_tzla7EdTSIJVbuhTKqJt_YWhSKaXFRoCvV3w_wcB
"Limit 1 per Household.
(when purchased between 05/15/2016 and 05/21/2016)"
Why limit it for just those days? Maybe a cargo ship got waylaid and all the product is hung up in shipping?Last edited: May 24, 2016HTWingNut likes this. -
Don't see the 4TB becoming "affordable" in Europe anytime soon. Dunno about the States. But a 4TB EVO costs ~$1537 USD in Germany, which is where I often order from.Starlight5 and TomJGX like this.

Obviously @HTWingNut hit the jackpot since he is thinking of ordering one.. The last time I checked he was dead broke after buying so many screens+new computer parts

Got a friend working at Samsung, the rumor on the floors is that they didn't expect the demand to be that high so they made a limited amount.
For some reason, even all over Europe (they are restocking a few places now) they are out of stock lol. I don't know if people suddenly found gold in basements or somethin'.jaybee83, TomJGX, hmscott and 1 other person like this. -
You have to be pretty stupid or rich to spend $1000 on a SSD so hardly surprising that they made a limited quantity..

Exactly. my budget is always around 150$ or less for any storage medium. I can't beleive some people actually paid the 1000$ for the 64GB Intel X25E when it came out...or 1000$ for a 1TB drive. I just make do what I can until the tech is no longer bleeding edge hahadeadsmiley likes this.

I have to admit I sprung for a 840 EVO 1TB mSATA drive in my Sager. 500GB just isn't enough with all the programming software packages and VMs I run. I justified it as a business expense (self-employed) and dove in. I don't have any regrets.

It costs $600-something. I'd buy one if I was confident in either Mushkin or Samsung, but apparently I am not, at least not in their current models.

And of those two? I'd pick Samsung over Mushkin any day.

@tilleroftheearth at least it's not SandForce, or Jmicron bridge chip.

You'd be surprised how the ease of installing and making VM's can be with an SSD. Now imagine having a lot of those... for things you know... you'd want to save time and be efficient, this is where the expensive SSD's are useful

This is true. I had to install Win 7 + my programming apps last week on an old laptop that I could leave with the customer for a bit. Took 3 hours to do that on a mechanical hard drive.
I have VMs on my 1TB HDD and on the SSD. The ones on the SSD are much snappier when I run them. They load quicker too. What can I say? I am pretty darn spoiled by the SSD's in my machines.jaug1337 and Starlight5 like this. -
$1000? More like $600.
Other than server or backup no spinner will be seen in my desktop or laptop.

I've not bought one of OWC's SSDs, as they used to be Sandforce based. Obviously that's not the case now, but I have had good success with some of their other products. The data doubler that they make was only optical drive replacement that ever worked on my classic MacBook Pro. They have a 30-day no questions asked return policy on the SSD, so it's at least worth a try if nothing else. -
For VMs they are nice. And what self respecting modern techie dont uses VMs?

Like 2TB Mushkin Reactor, it has JMS562 bridging two SM2246EN. I'm still somewhat sceptical about this design, and the price certainly ain't good enough to defeat my skepticism.TomJGX likes this. -
I'm dealing with dual 1TB SSD's for now. Waiting on a good deal for a couple decent 2TB drives. But not willing to shell out more than $400 for them.

it is a 2tb mushkin reactor.

@stamar oh really? then it must be OWC's magic faeries who provide the drive with AES-256 hardware encryption making the whole difference!

Why are Samsung 2TB SSD's now out of stock everywhere?
